Privacy Policy
Effective 28 August 2026
PE Prep Engine is a study tool for the NCEES PE and FE exams. This policy describes exactly what the site stores about you, why it stores it, who else processes it, and how to get it removed. It is written to match what the software actually does.
What we collect
Account information: your username, display name, and email address. Your password is never stored — only a cryptographic hash of it. If you joined through the beta, we also record which invite code you redeemed and when.
Study data: your target exam and exam date, the questions you attempt and whether you answered correctly, flashcard reviews, per-topic accuracy statistics, saved questions, experience points and streak counts, and the preferences you set.
Product analytics: first-party event records containing an event type, the page path, an anonymous session identifier, a timestamp, and the account they belong to. These are stored in our own database.
Feedback you send: the subject, the message, and which page you sent it from.
Sign-in sessions: each session records the browser's user-agent string and a hashed form of your IP address. We do not store raw IP addresses.
What we do not do
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information.
We do not embed third-party advertising networks, and we do not use third-party analytics or cross-site tracking services. The usage analytics described above are first-party and stay in our own database.
We do not use your study data to build profiles for anyone other than you.
Cookies
The site sets one cookie, a session cookie named epe_session. It is httpOnly, which means scripts on the page cannot read it, and it exists solely to keep you signed in. It expires after 30 days, or sooner if you sign out or the session goes unused for 14 days.
There are no advertising cookies and no cross-site tracking cookies.
Transactional email — address verification, sign-in codes, and password resets — is sent whenever you take an action that requires it. You cannot opt out of these while holding an account, because they are how the account stays secure.
Study reminders and the weekly digest are optional. You control them from Preferences, and every one of them can be turned off there.
Service providers
A small number of providers process data on our behalf so the site can run: Netlify hosts the web application, Railway hosts the database, Resend delivers email, and Cloudinary stores images and diagrams. Each handles only what its function requires.
The course videos are hosted on YouTube. Watching them there — or following any link from this site to YouTube — is governed by Google's privacy policy, not this one.
How long we keep it
Account and study data are kept for as long as your account exists, because that history is what the progress tracking and recommendations are built from.
Ask us to delete your account and we will delete it, along with your study history, analytics events, and feedback. Email arathbun.pdm@gmail.com.
Your choices
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Email arathbun.pdm@gmail.com from the address on your account and we will act on it.
You can change your display name, exam target, and email preferences yourself from Preferences at any time.
Children
This site is intended for engineers preparing for professional licensure exams. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects what we collect or who processes it, the effective date above will change and material changes will be announced on the site.
